Rapid Integrated Sensing and Evaluation (RISE)
RISE is an innovative characterization system consisting of both hardware and software that allows for in-situ quality control of manufactured parts while the part is still on the computed numerically controlled (CNC) machine, as well as consolidation of QC processes into a single CNC machine or CMM.
Currently, manufactured parts are checked for conformance with design specifications via either a laser or ruby touch point probe integrated into a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) for surface characterization, and/or manually manipulated sensors such as eddy current scanners for subsurface characterization. Paper-based quality control records are maintained.
The RISE system advances this current state of the art by integrating these QC technologies into a cohesive, customizable system. Based on the client’s QC requirements, multiple sensors are integrated directly into a CMM and/or a CNC machine. The laser-based scanning probe will generate a point cloud image of the as-manufactured part that will provide the framework onto which additional QC data is overlaid. Sensor manipulation and inspection is automated instead of performed manually. Additionally, model-based QC records are archived digitally.
